About
Based in Toronto, award winning photographer Clifton Li creates innovative and cutting edge imagery to satisfy the imagination of commercial and editorial clients. As a photographer, Clifton opts for visual simplicity and controlled expressiveness to achieve maximum visual impact. Clifton produces his own brand of aesthetic excellence using his understanding of the foundations of the image, composition, surrounding environment, and the most effective lighting for the setup. He pushes the image even further by provoking emotion through mood and storytelling.
Hawaii, with its exquisite ocean and exotic people, played a huge part in Clifton's desire to take photographs, not just because of its ever-present beauty, but also because of the stories that Clifton found there. As a co-op student from Waterloo University on exchange, Clifton discovered that his real passion was not in the Software Engineering program he was taking, but was in fact in photography. His trip to Hawaii opened his mind to the wide possibilities of photography as a narrative and representational medium and this led him to pursue it as a profession.
He honed his skills at Ryerson University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours, and through mentorships under several accomplished photographers.Clifton's dedication to commercial photography has earned him an international audience. Through experience, he has come to specialize and excel in high-speed and product photography.
He is very thankful that the Lord has given him the ability to do what he loves. In collaboration with a team of professionals, Clifton is also capable of executing more complex conceptual endeavours. He excels at what he does, but he has not let his success stop him from learning in order to facilitate new and greater projects. Above all, the studio of Clifton Li possesses the technical expertise to produce top-notch results every time.
Clifton Li has won the Applied Arts and Capic Rodeo awards three years running, in addition to awards from the Hasselblad Masters, Px3 Competition, and IPA - International Photography Awards.
